Colebrookdale Railroad Golden Spike 150th Anniversary Community Event
The Colebrookdale Railroad is the heart of numerous communities in both Montgomery and Berks Counties, Pennsylvania. Its reputation and operation as an education-oriented organization and an aggressive economic development partner has brought residents and tourists from every state in the union, along with multiple foreign nations, to experience the splendor of our region- specifically- the Secret Valley. The railroad cuts a course back in time, connecting visitors to the oldest ironmaking site in the new world. Largely forgotten and nearly abandoned, the line was saved by a concerned and dedicated group of citizens. Their efforts were lauded by the White House in 2015 with the highest federal recognition for a preservation project--joining Independence Hall and Fallingwater as the only other grassroots preservation projects in Pennsylvania to have ever received this honor. In September, 2019, the communities connected by the Colebrookdale Railroad will celebrate the railroad's 150th birthday, and its recent transformative rebirth, with a community picnic, a golden spike driving ceremony, and an evening gala reminiscent of the railroad’s historic glory days. We estimate that 5,000 attendees will enjoy the two days of planned festivities. The event will invite and capture tremendous media attention beyond Allentown and Philadelphia that will reach several million people. Newsprint, electronic media, and television coverage is invited and anticipated.

In the summer of 1865, a rag-tag band of soldiers just home from the Civil War gathered on the banks of the Manatawny Creek.  Over the course of the next four years, they would build a record of epic engineering and heroic human drama:  the Colebrookdale Railroad.  In September of this year, one hundred and fifty years after their struggle was complete, we, their decedents and the beneficiaries of their toil, gather to commemorate them and celebrate the achievement of the Colebrookdale’s rebirth.

In less than four years, the Colebrookdale Railroad’s volunteers have pulled off a remarkable feat in reviving the Colebrookdale’s Secret Valley Line.  Investing over 100,000 hours, they have restored nine miles of track with eleven bridges; they have renovated century-old passenger cars, taking them from a derelict condition to become some of the most beautiful trains in the world; they have restored a locomotive and built passenger boarding infrastructure in Pottstown and Boyertown; they have trained crew to meet a host of onerous federal and state standards required of railroads. They have given new hope to Boyertown and Pottstown.

Their investment of time and talent equates to over $6,000,000 of economic impact to Boyertown so far, with much more to come. The railroad brings 30,000 visitors a year from every state in the Union and many foreign countries to Pennsylvania.  Fifteen new businesses in Boyertown have opened since the railroad was revived.

On September 14, 2019, the Colebrookdale Railroad will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a Community Picnic and Golden Spike Driving Ceremony in the afternoon followed by a formal Great Gatsby Themed Cocktail Party with dinner food (with period music, drinks, dancing, and heavy hors d'oeuvres).

We would be very proud to broadcast our partnership with you.  We estimate 2000 people will attend the various events and many more thousands will see its marketing.  Guests at our evening event will include industry and political leaders, investors, and donors who will learn of your generosity. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss in the very near future. Our contact information is below and we would be happy to chat at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration of this special request and supporting the Colebrookdale Railroad.
