Welcome to Building a Better Boyertown

Building a Better Boyertown (BBB) is a non-profit organization formed in 2002. Boyertown, PA is a Main Street Community, received funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and private donors to focus on downtown revitalization.

BBB staff and volunteers develop and accomplish tasks that maintain Boyertown’s historical heritage, promote downtown Boyertown and attract people to the community. They concentrate on business recruitment and retention and on providing technical assistance and grant opportunities for property and business owners in the Main Street District to make facade improvements enhancing the town's Victorian architecture.

Overall, Boyertown's approach to revitalization is comprehensive in nature. We are always looking for fresh faces and ideas to help us achieve our goals. Come join us, and the fun!

Sept 20 2014 059On September 18th and 19th, Building a Better Boyertown (BBB) will hold its 8th annual OKTOBERFEST.  The event will kick off Friday, September 18th at 5:00 PM offering a variety of beers for every palette.  Wines from the local area and beyond will also be offered.  An assortment of food vendors will be on site to satisfy every person’s taste.  The event will continue on Saturday, September 19th starting at 11:00 AM with family friendly entertainment, beverages, food, craft vendors, and children activities.  The event will finally wind down at 9:00 PM.

Just as the people of Bavaria gathered each September two hundred years ago to celebrate the harvest, Building a Better Boyertown has hosted its own Oktoberfest celebration here in the heart of our small community, for the past eight years.  Boyertown’s Oktoberfest remains true to the original German Oktoberfest celebration by providing a market for local craftsman to display and sell their wares as well as providing entertainment and refreshments for those that attend.

This event has provided the funds for BBB to engage in projects and activities that enhance and promote Downtown Boyertown and the greater Boyertown area. This year, BBB will, once again, hold Oktoberfest over a two day, fun – filled celebration.  On Friday, September 18th, from 5:00pm – 9:00pm, please join the BBB in the Town Center Parking Lot as we kick off our weekend festivities.  Food concessions will be available from local vendors and music from local band, Free Way, will play a variety of hits from the 60’s – present.

Just as the Mayor of Munich opens the official Oktoberfest celebration, Boyertown’s own Mayor and Council President will arrive via horse-drawn carriage at 11:00 AM, September 19th for the ceremonial “tapping of the firkin”.  This year’s entertainment has been expanded and includes something for everyone: 10:30 AM – Boyertown’s Alumni Band will start the event off.  At 1:00 PM The Auerhahn Schuhplattler Dancers will dance us back to historical Bavaria.  At 2:00 PM The Auerhahn Schuhplattler Dancers will repeat their entertaining performance.  4:00 PM brings Boyertown’s own Stephanie Grace to the performance stage. And starting at 6:00 PM, local band, MudPuppy will close out the celebration.

If you are hungry during Oktoberfest some of our food vendors include:  Sweet Beginnings, Hillbilly Barbecue, CD’s Place, The Grill Shop, J-Walkers Funnel Cake, The Schnitzel House, Kiwanis, OMG Smoothies and Philly Pretzels.  And of course, what would an Oktoberfest be without a variety of your favorite beverages to accompany the food.   Beer will be supplied by Rader Co, The Other Farm Brewery, Sly Fox Brewery, and Saucony Creek Brewery.  Wine will be provided by Blair Vineyards and Manatawny Creek Winery.

Building a Better Boyertown will be offering two choices of drinking vessels this year.  In addition to the authentic German Souvenir beer mugs they will also be offering clear glass steins.  Both the mug and the steins can be purchased at the event or prior to the event at Patsy’s Potpourri of Gifts, Serenity Fitness and Wellness, or the Building a Better Boyertown office.

Building a Better Boyertown invites you to come celebrate Boyertown’s German heritage. Bring friend and family and enjoy a festive early September weekend under our Oktoberfest tents, browsing authentic crafts, or sampling the treats in our food vendor alley.

For more information about the event, visit our website at www.BoyertownOktoberfest.com or call BBB at 610-369-3054.

Studio B Invites Submissions for Third Annual Exhibit Combining Literary and Visual Art

Writers and artists are invited to submit work to Studio B’s third annual exhibit combining literary and visual art entitled “To Be: Know Thyself…You Do You.”

“The theme for this year’s exhibit is intended to celebrate the 500th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, presumed to be April 23, 1616,” said Jane Stahl, Studio B’s director of Community Relations and former teacher of English.

“Shakespeare, considered the gold medal winner of writers…of all time, told stories of people’s lives—their joys and struggles, their hopes and dreams, their successes and failures. And through those stories, he offered perspectives about life itself,” she continued. “We want our writers and artists to tell their life’s story.”

Stahl explained, “Writers are encouraged to write something that responds or connects to READ MORE
