RHOADS OPERA HOUSE FIRE MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at the tombstone for the “Unidentified” fire victims At 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, January 18th, 2015 on the anniversary of the mass burial of victims in Fairview Cemetery, 317 W Philadelphia Ave, Boyertown PA
A wreath will be laid by descendants of some of the victims and Pastor Burris from St. John’s Lutheran Church will give a blessing.
The Rhoads Opera House was a tragedy for the small Borough of Boyertown, caused the deaths of 170 people, and had devastating repercussions for many years thereafter.
Rhoads Opera House before and after the fire
The Boyertown Areza Historical Society has a display with pictures of the Rhoads Opera House Fire in its Museum (open during Haunted Walks) and materials relating to the fire in its library. Many paranormal experts today attribute the high amount of paranormal activity in
Boyertown today to the carnage of the Rhoads Opera House Fire. Other experts attribute it to the effect of the extensive magnetic iron ore deposits which lie around and underneath the Borough of Boyertown.
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR ALL OF OUR ACTIVITIES
